RESUMO

The performance of bacterial strains in executing degradative functions under the coexistence of heavy metals/heavy metal-like elements and organic contaminants is understudied. In this study, we isolated a fluorene-degrading bacterium, highly arsenic-resistant, designated as strain 2021, from contaminated soil at the abandoned site of an old coking plant. It was identified as a member of the genus Rhodococcus sp. strain 2021 exhibited efficient fluorene-degrading ability under optimal conditions of 400 mg/L fluorene, 30 °C, pH 7.0, and 250 mg/L trivalent arsenic. It was noted that the addition of arsenic could promote the growth of strain 2021 and improve the degradation of fluorene - a phenomenon that has not been described yet. The results further indicated that strain 2021 can oxidize As3+ to As5+; here, approximately 13.1% of As3+ was converted to As5+ after aerobic cultivation for 8 days at 30 °C. The addition of arsenic could greatly up-regulate the expression of arsR/A/B/C/D and pcaG/H gene clusters involved in arsenic resistance and aromatic hydrocarbon degradation; it also aided in maintaining the continuously high expression of cstA that codes for carbon starvation protein and prmA/B that codes for monooxygenase. These results suggest that strain 2021 holds great potential for the bioremediation of environments contaminated by a combination of arsenic and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. This study provides new insights into the interactions among microbes, as well as inorganic and organic pollutants.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To understand the serological characteristics of irregular antibodies in pregnant women and explore their clinical significance. METHODS: From January 2017 to March 2022, 151 471 pregnant women in Women and Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University were enrolled in this study, microcolumn gel card test was used for irregular antibody screening, and antibody specificity identification was further performed in some antibody-positive subjects. RESULTS: The positive rate of irregular antibody screening in the enrolled pregnant women was 0.91% (1 375/151 471), 0.23% (355/151 471) was detected in the first trimester, 0.05% (71/151 471) in the second trimester, and 0.63% (949/151 471) in the third trimester. The positive rate of irregular antibody screening in the third trimester was significantly higher than that in the first and second trimester, and a significant increase in the number of positive cases was found in the third trimester than that in the second trimester. The analysis of agglutination intensity of 1 375 irregular antibody screening positive results showed that the weakly positive agglutination intensity accounted for 50.11% (689/ 1 375), which was the highest, the suspicious positive was 18.69% (257/1 375), and the positive was 31.20% (429/1 375). The significant difference in distribution of agglutination intensity was not observed between the first trimester group and the second trimester group, however, in the third trimester, the proportion of suspicious positive and weakly positive was lower than the first trimester, while, the proportion of positive was higher than the first trimester, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.001). Among the irregular antibody screening positive pregnant women, the proportion of pregnant women with pregnancy number ≥ 2 was significantly higher than that with pregnancy ≤ 1. Among 60 pregnant women who underwent antibody identification, the distributions of the antibodies were as follows: Rh blood group system accounted for 23.33% (14/60), Lewis system 43.33% (26/60), Kidd system 3.33% (2/60), MNS system 16.67% (10/60), P1PK system 1.67% (1/60), autoantibodies 1.67% (1/60), and 4 cases was unable to identify (6.67%, 4/60). Among specific antibodies, the anti-Lea was the most common (30.00%), followed by anti-E (16.67%) and anti-M (16.67%). CONCLUSION: The differences of irregular antibody serological characteristics exist in pregnant women from different regions with different genetic backgrounds, understanding the characteristics of irregular antibody in local pregnant women is of great significance for ensuring transfusion safety in pregnant women and preventing hemolytic disease of newborn.

RESUMO

Plastics have revolutionized our lives; however, the exponential growth of their usage has led to a global crisis. More sustainable strategies are needed to address this dilemma and transform the plastics economy from a linearity to a circular model. Herein, we systematically summarize the recent progress in renewable energy-driven plastic conversion strategies, including photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, and their integration. By introducing the significant works, the design principles, mechanisms, and system regulations, we decipher and compare the various aspects of plastic conversion. These approaches show high reactivity and selectivity under environmentally benign conditions and provide alternative reaction pathways for plastic conversion. Plastic upcycling as a chemical feedstock can yield value-added chemicals and fuels, contributing to the establishment of a sustainable and circular economy. Additionally, several innovations in reaction engineering and system designs are presented. Finally, the challenges and perspectives of sustainable energy-driven plastic conversion technologies are comprehensively discussed.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Gyrodactylus is a lineage of monogenean flatworm ectoparasites exhibiting many features that make them a suitable model to study the host-parasite coevolutionary dynamics. Previous coevolutionary studies of this lineage mainly relied on low-power datasets (a small number of samples and a single molecular marker) and (now) outdated algorithms. METHODS: To investigate the coevolutionary relationship of gyrodactylids and their fish hosts in high resolution, we used complete mitogenomes (including two newly sequenced Gyrodactylus species), a large number of species in the single-gene dataset, and four different coevolutionary algorithms. RESULTS: The overall coevolutionary fit between the parasites and hosts was consistently significant. Multiple indicators confirmed that gyrodactylids are generally highly host-specific parasites, but several species could parasitize either multiple (more than 5) or phylogenetically distant fish hosts. The molecular dating results indicated that gyrodactylids tend to evolve towards high host specificity. Speciation by host switch was identified as a more important speciation mode than co-speciation. Assuming that the ancestral host belonged to Cypriniformes, we inferred four major host switch events to non-Cypriniformes hosts (mostly Salmoniformes), all of which occurred deep in the evolutionary history. Despite their relative rarity, these events had strong macroevolutionary consequences for gyrodactylid diversity. For example, in our dataset, 57.28% of all studied gyrodactylids parasitized only non-Cypriniformes hosts, which implies that the evolutionary history of more than half of all included lineages could be traced back to these major host switch events. The geographical co-occurrence of fishes and gyrodactylids determined the host use by these gyrodactylids, and geography accounted for most of the phylogenetic signal in host use. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the coevolution of Gyrodactylus flatworms and their hosts is largely driven by geography, phylogeny, and host switches.

RESUMO

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating disease characterized by neuronal apoptosis. Gli-similar 3 (GLIS3), a transcriptional factor, was involved in cell apoptosis and associated with the transcription of downstream target genes related to neuronal function. However, the function of GLIS3 in SCI remains unknown. Therefore, we used the mouse model of SCI to explore the role of GLIS3 in SCI. The results showed that GLIS3 expression was significantly increased in spinal cord tissues of SCI mice, and GLIS3 overexpression promoted the functional recovery, reserved histological changes, and inhibited neuronal apoptosis after SCI. Through online tools, the potential target genes of GLIS3 were analyzed and we found that Mps one binder kinase activator 1b (Mob1b) had a strong association with SCI among these genes. MOB1b is a core component of Hippo signaling pathway, which was reported to inhibit cell apoptosis. MOB1b expression was significantly increased in mice at 7 days post-SCI and GLIS3 overexpression further increased its expression. Dual-luciferase reporter assay revealed that GLIS3 bound to the promoter of Mob1b and promoted its transcription. In conclusion, our findings reveal that the compensatory increase of GLIS3 promotes functional recovery after SCI through inhibiting neuronal apoptosis by transcriptionally regulating MOB1b. Our study provides a novel target for functional recovery after SCI.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Few methods can cocurrently mimic the pathological characteristics and nature history of human abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs), especially for the exist of the self-healing tendency of rodents. This study tested a novel method for the AAA rat model induced by retroperitoneal implantation of an osmotic pump system with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) based on the hypothesis that chronic inflammation of perivascular adipose tissue directly influenced the development and progression of AAAs. METHODS: 20 male Sprague-Dawley rats (10-month-old) fed with the Paigen diet were randomly divided into 4 groups: the blank group ×2, the sham group ×4, the empty capsule group ×4, and the LPS capsule group ×10. The LPS capsule group received implantations of the ALZET® osmotic pump capsule with LPS (3.6 µg/day) parallel to the abdominal aorta through a retroperitoneal approach. Two weeks later, 6 rats were randomly selected from the LPS capsule group to form the anti-inflammatory group and received implantations of another osmotic pump capsule with interleukin (IL)-10 (75 ng/day) through the same approach. The changes in abdominal aortic diameter were observed by ultrasound every 2 weeks, and samples were harvested for histopathologic and immunohistochemical analysis 6 weeks later. RESULTS: Within the 6 weeks after modeling, the LPS capsule group showed sustained and significant aortic dilatation (P < 0.01), while the anti-inflammatory group showed a rapid and obvious shrinkage 2 weeks after the IL-10 osmotic pump capsule implantation (P < 0.01). The LPS capsule group presented excellent pathological mimicking of human AAAs and showed severe medial degeneration with the least elastic content among the 5 groups at the end of the sixth week (P < 0.05). Notably, the anti-inflammatory group showed perfect medial preservation with the most elastic content (P < 0.05) and the highest elastin/collagen ratio (P < 0.01) at the end of the study. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) 2 and 9 and toll-like receptor 2 showed strong expression in the LPS capsule group at the end of the sixth week, which was significantly higher than that in the blank group and sham group. Interestingly, the anti-inflammatory group showed a slightly higher MMP9 expression than the LPS capsule group though there was no statistical difference between them. CONCLUSIONS: This novel method for the rat AAA model induced by retroperitoneal implantation of an osmotic pump capsule with LPS can concurrently mimic the histological characteristics and natural history of human AAAs. Further studies were needed to improve the osmotic pump system.

RESUMO

Gemcitabine (GEM) is a standard chemotherapeutic agent for patients with pancreatic cancer; however, GEM-based chemotherapy has a high rate of toxicity. A combination of GEM and active constituents from natural products may enhance its therapeutic efficacy and reduce its toxicity. This study investigated the synergistic effects of the combination of liriopesides B (LirB) from Liriope spicata var. prolifera and GEM on human pancreatic cancer cells. The results of our study showed that the combination of LirB and GEM synergistically decreased the viability of pancreatic cancer cells. The combination also caused a strong increase in apoptosis and a strong decrease in cell migration and invasion. Furthermore, LirB combined with GEM had potent inhibitory effects on pancreatic cancer stem cells (CSCs). Studies on the mechanisms of action showed that the combination more potently inhibited protein kinase B (Akt) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), as well as the downstream antiapoptotic molecules B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and survivin than either agent used alone. The results of this study suggest that the combination of LirB with GEM may improve the efficacy of GEM for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

RESUMO

A general and efficient CuI/N-carbazolyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carbohydrazide catalyst system was developed for the N-arylation of cyclopropylamine using aryl bromides at room temperature. Herein, 5 mol % CuI and 5 mol % of the ligand were used to synthesize N-aryl cyclopropylamines in moderate to excellent yields. This protocol was scaled up to produce the desired product at gram levels and has been generalized for C-N coupling between aryl bromides and amines at room temperature.

RESUMO

Postdissection thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm incidence after thoracic endovascular aortic repair for type B aortic dissection is high, with residual distal tears being a major reason for persistent blood flow in the false lumen. The EndoPatch is an endovascular double-disc implant for sealing re-entry tears in aortic dissection, isolating blood flow in the false lumen and promoting thrombosis formation. Compared with conventional endovascular treatment techniques, this endovascular double-disc implant's small size and minimal working space requirements may reduce the risk of spinal ischemia and offer flexible vascular access. Although several barriers still impede this endovascular device's broad application, its innovative design, flexible vascular access, and streamlined surgical process make it a promising alternative for managing intimal tears in aortic dissection, either alone or as a supplementary method combined with conventional endovascular techniques. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To preliminarily evaluate the safety and efficacy of the WeFlow-JAAA endograft, a novel off-the-shelf device designed for the repair of juxtarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms (JRAAAs) and pararenal abdominal aortic aneurysms (PRAAAs). METHODS: This prospective single-arm first-in-human clinical trial included patients with JRAAAs (infrarenal necks ≤10 mm) or PRAAAs with at least a 5 mm sealing zone below the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) who underwent endovascular repair using the WeFlow-JAAA endograft system. With this system, the celiac artery was addressed with a wide scallop, the renal arteries (RAs) were addressed with 2 standard inner branches, and the SMA was addressed with a "mini-inner-cuff" reinforced fenestration. The primary efficacy endpoint was the clinical success at 12 months. The primary safety endpoint was the freedom from major adverse events (MAEs) in the first 30 days after surgery. RESULTS: Fifteen patients (all men; mean age 68.5±6.0 years) were enrolled between October 2019 and August 2021. The median infrarenal neck length was 0 mm (IQR, 0-4 mm). Technical success was achieved in all patients. No MAEs occurred in the first 30 days. The mean fluoroscopy time was 73.1±27.8 minutes, and the mean volume of contrast media was 130.7±29.4 mL. Clinical success was maintained in all patients at 12 months. No aortic-related deaths, aneurysm rupture, type I or type III endoleak, or open surgery conversion occurred during the follow-up period. The secondary intervention was required only in 1 patient who developed an occluded right RA stent 14 months after the procedure. CONCLUSION: The WeFlow-JAAA endograft device appears to be safe and efficacious in selected patients with JRAAAs or PRAAAs with more than 5 mm sealing zone below SMA. Large-scale, multicenter, and prospective studies with long-term follow-ups are ongoing to validate our findings in China. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov identifier: NCT04745546 (URL: Guo's Visceral Arteries Reconstruction: The First in Man Study of WeFlow-JAAA Stent Graft System-Full-Text View-ClinicalTrials.gov). CLINICAL IMPACT: The first-in-human clinical trial of the WeFlow-JAAA endograft system demonstrates promising safety and efficacy in treating juxtarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms (JRAAAs) and partial pararenal abdominal aortic aneurysms (PRAAAs). This innovative off-the-shelf device offers a potential alternative to traditional endovascular aortic repair. The successful outcomes, including technical success in all patients, freedom from major adverse events, and maintenance of clinical success at 12 months, suggest a potential shift in clinical practice towards using the WeFlow-JAAA endograft system for selected patients. This study paves the way for larger-scale, multicenter, prospective studies to further validate its long-term safety and efficacy, offering clinicians a new option for managing complex abdominal aortic aneurysms.

RESUMO

Adding adipose cells to cell-cultured meat can provide a distinctive aroma and juicy texture similar to real meat. However, a significant challenge still exists in obtaining seed cells that can be propagated for long periods, maintain their adipogenic potential, and reduce production costs. In this study, we present a cell strain derived from immortalized porcine preadipocytes that can be subculture for over 40 passages without losing differentiation capacity. This cell strain can be differentiated within 3D bioscaffolds to generate cell-cultured fat using fewer chemicals and less serum. Additionally, it can be expanded and differentiated on microcarriers with upscaled culture to reduce costs and labor. Moreover, it can co-differentiate with muscle precursor cells, producing a pattern similar to real meat. Therefore, our cell strain provides an exceptional model for studying and producing cell-cultured fat.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the impact of endometriosis on the therapeutic effect of hysteroscopic fallopian tube catheterization combined with laparoscopy in infertile patients with proximal tubal obstruction. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent hysteroscopic fallopian tube catheterization combined with laparoscopy for infertility caused by proximal fallopian tube obstruction between January 19, 2016 and March 20, 2020 at the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology, West China Second Hospital, Sichuan University. During the operation, hydrotubation was performed to verify whether there was proximal tubal obstruction. Then, the patients were categorized into an endometriosis group and a non-endometriosis group according to whether their proximal tubal obstruction was combined with endometriosis. The baseline data were balanced by propensity score matching and the rate of successful surgical unblocking of proximal tubal obstruction in infertile patients by hysteroscopic fallopian tube catheterization combined with laparoscopy was calculated. Treating cases lost to follow-up in both groups as non-pregnant cases according to the principle of intention-to-treat analysis, we followed up the pregnancy outcomes after surgery. The primary indicators included overall successful surgical unblocking rate, clinical pregnancy rate, and spontaneous pregnancy rate, while the secondary indicators included live birth rate, miscarriage rate, ectopic pregnancy rate, and the mean time to spontaneous pregnancy after surgery. The primary indicators included overall successful surgical unblocking rate, clinical pregnancy rate, and spontaneous conception rate, while the secondary indicators included live birth rate, miscarriage rate, ectopic pregnancy rate, and the mean time to spontaneous pregnancy after surgery. Results: After propensity score matching, 113 cases were included in each of the two groups, with the overall successful surgical unblocking rate being 72.6%. The successful surgical unblocking rate of patients in the endometriosis group was higher than that of the non-endometriosis group, with the difference being statistically significant (78.8% vs. 66.4%, P<0.05). A total of 38 patients were lost after follow-up matching. Postoperative follow-up was performed to date and, through intention-to-treat analysis, the spontaneous conception rate was found to be higher in the endometriosis group than that in the non-endometriosis group (44.2% vs. 30.1%, P<0.05), while the mean time to spontaneous pregnancy after surgery was shorter in the endometriosis group than that in the non-endometriosis group (46 months vs. 53 months, P<0.05). There was no significant difference in clinical pregnancy rate, live birth rate, miscarriage rate, and ectopic pregnancy rate between the endometriosis group and the non-endometriosis group ( P>0.05). Conclusion: When infertility caused by proximal tubal obstruction is combined with endometriosis, performing hysteroscopic fallopian tube catheterization combined with laparoscopy contributes to the improvement of reproduction outcomes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between the imaging biomarker (volumetric perivascular characterization index [VPCI]) which indicates the aortic wall inflammation by mapping the spatial changes of perivascular fat attenuation on computed tomography angiography (CTA) and the reintervention risk for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) patients after endovascular aortic repair (EVAR). METHODS: This case-control study included AAA patients undergoing EVAR from a single center (n=260). Cases were AAA patients undergoing reintervention after EVAR and a 1:1 frequency-matched control group of AAA patients post-EVAR with a shrunken or ≥3-year stable sac and free of reintervention signs during the follow-up. The predictive variable (VPCI trajectory) was converted to binary variables according to the changing trend of VPCI with follow-up time. As a quasi-complete separation data pattern, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (lasso) regression was used to screen and prove the VPCI trajectory as the best predictor, and the performance was evaluated by calculating the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. RESULTS: Between 2010 and 2021, 15 AAA patients after EVAR with type I/III endoleak, aneurysm rupture, or impending rupture were included. Compared with the 1:1 frequency-matched controls with a shrunken or ≥3-year stable sac and free of reintervention signs during the follow-up, VPCI trajectories of the case group were all upward trends, whereas the controls showed 86.7% downward trends (p<0.001). The best predictive model of lasso regressions included 4 variables, and VPCI trajectory was the most outstanding, followed by the proximal landing zone, the distal landing zone, and the infrarenal ß angle. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of predicting the risk of reintervention were as follows, respectively: 93.3%, 100%, and 86.7%. CONCLUSIONS: The wall inflammation detected by imaging perivascular adipose tissue based on the CTAs was strongly associated with the reintervention risk for AAA patients after EVAR, which might hold major promise as a new imaging biomarker for the mechanism and treatment study of human AAAs before and after EVAR. CLINICAL IMPACT: The study introduces a novel imaging biomarker which indicates the aortic wall inflammation by mapping spatial changes of perivascular fat attenuation on CTA. This biomarker demonstrates a strong association with the reintervention risk in AAA patients after EVAR. Incorporation of VPCI into clinical practice has the potential to enhance the traditional surveillance methods (CT/CTAs) by providing clinicians with a non-invasive method to assess aortic wall inflammation and predict the risk of reintervention. Additionally, this study might offer a valuable tool for mechanism and treatment research in humans with AAAs both pre- and post-EVAR, ultimately improving patient outcomes and refining therapeutic strategies.

RESUMO

Four previously undescribed hirsutinolide-type sesquiterpenoids, cyanolides A-D (1-4), along with twelve known analogues (5-16), were isolated from the aerial parts of Cyanthillium cinereum. Their structures were determined by comprehensive analysis of NMR, HRESIMS, and ECD spectra. Compound 1 is a rarely occurring hirsutinolide-type sesquiterpenoid with 1,4-ether ring ruptured and containing a chlorine atom, and compounds 13-16 were reported from this plant for the first time. All compounds were tested for their inhibiting effects on prostate cancer cells. As a result, compounds 1, 3, and 8-14 exhibited significant anti-prostate cancer activity against PC-3 and LNCaP cells with IC50 values ranging from 2.2 ± 0.4 to 8.5 ± 0.7 µM and 3.0 ± 0.7 to 10.5 ± 1.1 µM, respectively. The preliminary structure-activity relationship was discussed. Further investigation showed that compound 1 induced apoptosis in PC-3 cells.

RESUMO

Nephrolithiasis is highly prevalent and associated with the increased risk of kidney cancer. The tumor suppressor von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) is critical for renal cancer development, however, its role in kidney stone disease has not been fully elucidated until now. Here we reported VHL expression was upregulated in renal epithelial cells upon exposure to crystal. Utilizing Vhl+/mu mouse model, depletion of VHL exacerbated kidney inflammatory injury during nephrolithiasis. Conversely, overexpression of VHL limited crystal-induced lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis in a BICD2-depdendent manner. Mechanistically, VHL interacted with the cargo adaptor BICD2 and promoted itsd K48-linked poly-ubiquitination, consequently resulting in the proteasomal degradation of BICD2. Through promoting STAT1 nuclear translocation, BICD2 facilitated IFNγ signaling transduction and enhanced IFNγ-mediated suppression of cystine/glutamate antiporter system Xc-, eventually increasing cell sensitivity to ferroptosis. Moreover, we found that the BRAF inhibitor impaired the association of VHL with BICD2 through triggering BICD2 phosphorylation, ultimately causing severe ferroptosis and nephrotoxicity. Collectively, our results uncover the important role of VHL/BICD2/STAT1 axis in crystal kidney injury and provide a potential therapeutic target for treatment and prevention of renal inflammation and drug-induced nephrotoxicity.

RESUMO

Following the publication of this paper, it was drawn to the Editor's attention by a concerned reader that the colony formation assay data shown in Figs. 2, 4 and 8 were strikingly similar to data that had already appeared in another article written by different authors at different research institutes [Chen W, Wang J, Liu S, Wang S, Cheng Y, Zhou W, Duan C and Zhang C: MicroRNA3613p suppresses tumor cell proliferation and metastasis by directly targeting SH2B1 in NSCLC. J Exp Clin Cancer Res 35: 76, 732516, 2016]. Owing to the fact that the contentious data in the above article had already been published prior to its submission to Oncology Reports, the Editor has decided that this paper should be retracted from the Journal. The authors were asked for an explanation to account for these concerns, but the Editorial Office did not receive a reply. The Editor apologizes to the readership for any inconvenience caused. RESUMO

Objective: To determine the thermic effect of food (TEF) in a Chinese mixed diet in young people. Methods: During the study, the participants were weighed and examined for body composition every morning. The total energy expenditure (TEE) of the participants was measured by the doubly labeled water method for 7 days, and during this period, basal energy expenditure was measured by indirect calorimetry and physical activity energy expenditure was measured by an accelerometer. The value obtained by subtracting basal energy expenditure and physical activity energy expenditure from TEE was used to calculate TEF. Results: Twenty healthy young students (18-30 years; 10 male) participated in the study. The energy intake of the participants was not significantly different from the Chinese Dietary Reference Intake of energy ( P > 0.05). The percentage of energy from protein, fat and carbohydrate were all in the normal range. The intakes of fruits, milk and dietary fiber of the participants were significantly lower than those in the Chinese Dietary Guidelines ( P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the body weight of the participants during the experiment ( P > 0.05). When adjusted for body weight, there was no significant difference in either TEE or basal energy expenditure between the male and female participants ( P > 0.05). In addition, there was no significant difference in physical activity energy expenditure and TEF between the male and female participants ( P > 0.05). The percentage of TEF in TEE was 8.73%. Conclusion: The percentage of TEF in TEE in a Chinese mixed diet in young people was significantly lower than 10% ( P < 0.001). A value of 10% is usually considered to be the TEF in mixed diets as a percentage of TEE.
